Judy Blume has written a new book. It’s called In the Unlikely Event and is a story based on a 58-day period in 1951-52, in which three planes crashed in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Blume’s home town. The first crash was just a short distance from Blume’s junior high school. While most of Blume’s books are for children and young adults, this one is for adults. In a recent Goodreads interview, however, Blume states that anyone can read In the Unlikely Event.

There’s no reason why any teen who wants to read this book cannot read this book. There are disturbing moments in it, but there’s nothing wrong with that. As Henry [a character from In the Unlikely Event] says, terrible things happen.

You can find out more about Judy Blume and her latest book on this Goodreads interview.

Here’s a link to an interesting article about these crashes on nj.com.

Do you have a favorite Judy Blume book?  I wasn’t a big reader when I was a girl and I am embarrassed to admit that I have only read one Judy Blume book, Summer SistersI’m definitely going to check this one out!

Thanks for visiting – come back soon!

  1. I am a huge Judy Blume fan. I was not much of a reader growing up either, but Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary were my exceptions. She’s a wonderful story teller and even as an adult, I still love her voice. She had a way of getting inside a young girls mind that was exceptional. Her books are still relevant today. I’m really looking forward to her new book. My favorites growing up . . .Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Staring Sally J. Freedman as Herself, and Are You There, God, It’s Me Margaret.

Tell me what you're thinking!
