Love stories are never simple and love is never a straight and clear path, is it? Take a look at these tales of love, longing and deception. Five classic love stories worthy of many re-reads!
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
One of my favorite Hemingway books—love during wartime
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Scarlett turns many heads, but she meets her match in Rhett!
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Will Jane and Mr. Rochester ever get together?
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
This classic French novel caused quite a scandal!
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
When you marry one, but long for another. Winner of the 1921 Pulitzer Prize.
Can you add to this five-star list?
Thanks for visiting – come back soon!
I’m not sure I can add to this list, Barbara. Gone With the Wind is my all-time favorite. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m not much for love stories, but I did love Jill’s book! Was a wonderful escape from the darkness that seems to infest our days in these crazy times.
What a nice comment to wake up to, Carrie….thank you!
You’re welcome. It’s true. 😊
Thank you, Carrie. 🙂
Yes I love Gone With the Wind – the movie too. I’ve read the book 3 times and seen the movie countless times. Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, Jill. Thanks for being such a loyal reader of my blog!
Lovely list! I adore rereading Gone With the Wind (and am probably overdue for another reread, now that I think about it.) I haven’t read Madame Bovary or Age of Innocence, but I suppose I should correct that!
I loved all 5 of these books, but Gone With the Wind is one I want to keep on re-reading. I recently read Age of Innocence. It had been on my tbr list forever. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Lisa. Have a great reading evening!
The Gift of the Magi is my favorite love story.
Oh yes I love that one!
A thoughtful selection, Barbara. I remember crying when I read A Farewell to Arms, and Jane Eyre is a huge favourite. The last two I have to check out.
I also cried when I read A Farewell to Arms and Jane Eyre is such a well-written story. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great evening!
I love all of these books so much. As always, an excellent post. X
Yes they are definitely classics, aren’t they? Happy Saturday to you – hope you can curl up with a book today or take a nice walking trip!
Good guess, walking and reading today. Happy Saturday. Hope you’re well x
The Thorn Birds is a powerful family saga and romance❤
I should read that – I remember when it was a popular miniseries on TV. I like returning to great books!
Great list!
