The problem with having a Top 10 book list is that over time it’s impossible to keep the number at 10. I’ve left it that way for a few years, but it’s time for an update. So to accommodate some of the great books I’ve recently read, here is my new list, in alphabetical order.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Life After Life by Kate Atkinson
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Youngblood Hawke by Herman Wouk
Do you have a Top 10 List (or a Top 15 or Top 20)? Leave a link in the comments and I’ll pop over and say hello!
Thanks for visiting – come back soon!
Great selections, Barbara. Happy New Year

I haven’t tackled my all time faves yet! I have a mental list…but I need to document it some day! The closest I’ve come is a Top Ten Histfic of the Decade list! https://readingladies.com/2019/12/27/ten-favorite-historical-fiction-reads-of-the-decade/

I’m heading over there now!

I would have a hard time narrowing this list down, as well. I have not read any of these yet!

There are so many books out there, who can keep up with all of them? Here’s to more in 2020, Stephanie. Thanks for being such a loyal visitor! 🙂

Barbara, I’m so impressed you can narrow down books to the top 15! All look terrific and realise how many I’ve read on your recommendation! Happy Reading!

I’ve actually read quite a few of these – Madame Bovary in both English and French – and Posy Simmons’s version 🙂

Ah oui, I studied French in college and had to read several French novels – had it not been for the English versions I would have been lost. I quickly decided to major in English and not French!

I must root out my little book in which I can keep a record of books read – and keep it handy! I’ve read a few of yours on your impressive list. O the joys of books! Have a happy year Barbara 🙂

Lovely list! I don’t have a permanent all-time favorite list, but maybe I should make one. Gone With the Wind would be on mine as well, and The Book Thief and To Kill a Mockingbird too.

Yes, they are all great books – it’s hard to narrow it down, but it’s fun too! My Top 15 will certainly grow to Top 20 before long!

Wonderful list! But like you, I can’t really name just ten favorite books…..there are so many good books out there which have touched my life in so many ways.

I appreciate you sharing your list, Barbara. I have read some on your list and some are new to me. I find it especially interesting how there is often an overlap when favourite books are shared. This is where I find the gems. Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Hi Erica/Erika – that’s a great way of looking at lists of favorites. I think you’re onto the right way to find those gems. Thanks for stopping by and Happy New Year to you, too! Sorry for the delayed response. I had to be away from the blog for a bit 😉

There are a lot of great books on your list, like the first one and madame Bovary! I recently did a post about my top 12 of the decade: https://wordsandpeace.com/2020/01/09/decade-of-reading-2010-2019-my-top-12/

Thank you – it’s hard to narrow it down and that’s why I couldn’t make it a Top Ten! Thanks for the visit 😀
