Book Club Mom’s August 2020 recap

August was a good summer month for me. A few socially distant day trips to the beach made these summer days seem like normal. We still have more days of summer ahead, but yesterday I spotted candy corn and mini pumpkins at the grocery store. Is anyone thinking about Halloween? I’m not!

Here’s a quick look at what I’ve been doing:

  1. Hi, Barb – Your August reads and your trip to the beach all look wonderful.
Yesterday I finished A Home for Her Daughter by Jill Weatherholt. I highly recommend it to all.
PS – I am not remotely thinking of autumn right now. I am going to savour every last drop of summer that I possibly can!

    1. Hey Donna, yes I actually love late summer. Wish I could make another trip to the beach but I probably won’t be able to. I want to read Jill’s book. We just got a copy at the library so I’m excited! 🙂

  2. The ocean video reminds me of 2-3 trips to the beach this summer. For us, it’s only a 15 minute drive east.

I miss traveling out of state though. Three years ago we celebrated a wedding anniversary in British Columbia. Someday we can use our passports again.

I admire all your reading and reviewing, Barbara! 😉

  3. Your beach looks tantalizing. Just emerging from weeks of heat and wildfire smoke here in Napa Valley, with another heat wave on the way over Labor Day weekend (and please God, no more smoke or fires!) — so I’m pretty happy to see August in the rear view mirror. Bring on fall ASAP!

    1. Hi Jan – hasn’t 2020 been awesome…

I’m so glad you are coming out of all the heat and smoke. What a terrible thing to have to deal with on top of the pandemic. Are you teaching online? How is that going?

  4. Loved your ocean video, Barbara. Looks so relaxing. We’re in another intense heat wave here. I’m about an hour south of where Jan lives in Napa. There’s a new fire near Fresno and Shaver Lake, a popular campground where we’ve camped before. 163 were rescued, but we haven’t heard about the rest. All these fires and we still have a couple of months to go before fire season dies down. 😦
Oh, and I’m with you about Halloween! What will that even look like in this pandemic? I sure hope 2021 starts out on a more positive note. Take care and hope you’re having a good weekend. 💕

    1. Oh thank you so much and I hope you stay safe from all the fires. Such a time the west coast is having on top of everything else. I’m also wondering what will become of Halloween. I doubt there will be trick or treaters around here. I’m also looking forward to a better 2021 – fingers crossed.

  5. You’ve been busy as usual, Barbara. As for Halloween, I’m thinking about it because it’s my younger grandson’s favourite day of the year, and I don’t know what it’s going to look like this time.

    1. Hi Jennifer – yes I wonder too about Halloween. I don’t know how we’d be able to have trick or treaters because of the candy handouts. So many things that are different – I’m pretty tired of change! (hanging in there though 😉 )
