Hi Everyone, just sharing this NaNoWriMo update – I’ve been busy tapping away on my keyboard and haven’t had as much time to read other bloggers’ posts. I’m easing back in now so I’ll be seeing you soon!

Hello! Just checking in with anyone else who may be participating in this year’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).
Phew – I’m half-way through my 50,000 word goal and having a lot of fun, but I’ll admit that, despite staying on pace with the 1,667 words per day, the first week or so was a bit of a mess. I’ve finally found a plot and I’m working on some characters!
I don’t expect the results to resemble anything worth publishing, but it’s a great way to escape and to exercise my mind.
So, who else has taken on the NaNoWriMo challenge and how’s it going for you? Leave a comment and tell me how you’re doing!
Congratulations on your work on the NaNoWriMo challenge. I hope that you publish some of your results!
Thank you, Donna. This has been a trial run. I think I will do it again next year but start it with more preparation. Tons of fun when there’s no pressure. 🙂
I went in this year with more preparation than I’ve ever done before — a full chapter and scene breakdown, plus setting and character sketches and a fair amount of world-building notes. Sounds impressive, right? In actual drafting (I’m up past 30K words as of right now), the story keeps wandering into the weeds and heading off the rails — but I’ve learned to expect that from a rough draft. I keep repeating the mantra: you can’t revise a blank page. But it would be nice to get past Chapter 10 by the time I reach 50K, otherwise this will be a doorstop rather than a book!
Congratulations! You have accomplished a lot! 🙂
Thanks, Lynette! 🙂
I’m not sure what happened to my comment from yesterday, but congratulations Barbara! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Jill. I think it landed on my other blog – tap tap tap!
You are on target. Well done
Congratulations on this milestone during the month. I have been busy blogging and marketing my memoir, so not much original work going on behind this desk.
I’m proud of you, Barbara! 🙂
Thanks, Marian!
I think it’s great that you’re taking this challenge, Barbara. I had heard of it, but I wasn’t sure what it entailed. Is the challenge only for fiction writers? Maybe next year I’ll try for the fun of it, but I’m not a fiction writer. I’ve only dabbled in the genre. 🙂 Congrats and good luck on the tap, tap, tapping!
Hi Lauren – thanks for stopping by – the NanoWriMo has been fun because, even though I’ve committed to 1667 words a day, I don’t feel the pressure – it’s just for fun. You can write whatever you want during the NaNo – fiction or nonfiction. It’s very loose. Here’s the link if you want to check it out:

Thanks for the visit, too 🙂
I’m glad you’re enjoying and not feeling pressured, Barbara. That’s when the fun disappears. And thanks for the link. I’ll check it out. Happy weekend! 🙂
