Memorial Day 2021 – honoring our fallen heroes

On this Memorial Day, it’s important to honor the men and women soldiers who lost their lives protecting our freedom. Here are three excellent books depicting war and sacrifice.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut

Thank you for visiting.

    1. We have something in common, Books and Bakes – the ever increasing list! Thank you for reading. All’s well here – hope you’re enjoying some nice weather. 🙂

  1. I’m tardy today, seeing this post on Tuesday. Still, I resonate with Farewell to Arms, recalling the back story to this book from a recent PBS documentary on Hemingway. You may have seen it, Barbara.

    1. Hi Marian – I haven’t watched it yet – several of my co-workers have, though. Did you get to see the whole series? It’s definitely on my list. Thanks for reading and commenting, Marian. 🙂

  2. I hope you had a good memorial day, Barbara. I have read two of your three books presented here. I also read To the last man by Jeff Shaara which was more of a fictionalised retelling of this war, but so fascinating.

    1. Hi Robbie – I’m going to have to look that one up. Thanks for the recommendation. I knew you had read A Farewell to Arms. Which of the other two have you read? Thanks for visiting!

      1. Definitely a good one. I was apprehensive about Slaughterhouse Five. The title kind of scared me and I’d never read Vonnegut. I was so glad I did, though.
