An Elderly Lady Is up to No Good by Helene Tursten – highly entertaining quick read about an old woman who takes doing what she wants to the next level.
The Wager – A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by David Grann – 5-star sea-faring read about one of eight British ships that sailed from Portsmouth, England in 1740, on a secret mission to capture a “treasure-filled Spanish galleon” near Cape Horn, South America.
The Last Word by Taylor Adams – 3-stars for this thriller with lots of twists and turns about a woman who housesits an isolated beach property.
Spider Woman’s Daughter by Anne Hillerman – 3.5 star Leaphorn and Chee mystery, Anne Hillerman’s debut after taking over her father’s series.
Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly by Anthony Bourdain – 4.5 stars for celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s now-classic memoir about the restaurant business.
Bound by Ice: A True North Pole Survival Story by Sandra Neil Wallace and Rich Wallace – 4 star-middle-grade read about the quest to reach the North Pole.
The Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly – 3.5 stars for this historical fiction story about a well-known garden designer in the UK who was hired to rework a garden at an English estate, and how that garden changed over a century.
The Maid by Nita Prose – 4-star feel-good read about a naïve and awkward young woman who works as a maid in a 5-star boutique hotel and gets caught up in a murder mystery.
The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride – 5 stars for this historical mystery, loaded with complex characters and rich in religious and cultural history.
Hidden in Snow by Viveca Sten – 4-star crime novel set in Stockholm and Swedish ski resort Åre. First in the Åre series.
Very Bad Company by Emma Rosenblum – 3 stars for this light and sarcastic thriller with egocentric and selfish characters about an ad-tech company on the verge of dramatic changes.
A World of Curiosities by Louise Penny – 4-star mystery set in the idyllic village of Three Pines, Québec. This is Book 18 of the Inspector Gamache series. A little hard to follow if you haven’t read them all.

Thanks for this post. I think I only missed a few of them, but I appreciate the recap! I just finished The Wager, which was very interesting. But now I’m quite nervous…we recently booked a cruise that will travel in those treacherous waters. Yikes!
