Since football season is once again upon us, I thought it would be fun to look at some interesting football books. Certainly not a comprehensive list, the books below tell about a couple famous quarterbacks, a legendary high school team and offer two good middle school fiction reads.

Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger:  Excellent account of the Permian Panthers high school football team in Odessa, Texas, the “winningest team in Texas history.” Bissinger chronicles the 1988 season and tells the story of the small town that revolves around Friday night games and elevates its players to hero status. If you like to know the real story behind ultra-competitive high school football programs, check out the book and the movie. 1. I can barely pay attention to a real football game — and yet, I very much liked “Friday Night Lights” in its first season. And there have been some heart-tugging football movies. So it follows that there could be great books on the topic. I’m just not likely to be first in line for them 😉

  2. I’m thrilled for the Philadelphia Eagles…it’s been a long time coming. Living with one of the biggest Eagle fan you’ll ever meet, we’re still celebrating.
I’ve never read “Friday Night Lights,” but I heard so many good things about the show.
My favorite movie of all time is RUDY. I’m sure it’s a book, too.

    1. Hi Jill – I live with a couple of those fans too! 😉 That team deserves every bit of success that comes their way because they earned it. (That’s coming from a Giants fan!) What a great game! I liked FNL the book, movie and tv show! I haven’t watched Rudy but I know it’s a good one. I think it is a book too. Thanks for reading – I’m making my way though blog posts- I see you have a new one and will be stopping by soon!

  3. I think I’m ready for football to be over (and it is), Barb. Now we will have basketball seven days a week until the end of March. Me? I’m ready for lacrosse season – that’s my sport!

Tell me what you're thinking!
